Why to choose the XTRAC EXCIMER laser treatment for psoriasis
Phototherapy (light-ray treatment) is one of the best treatments for psoriasis, considered a ‘gold standard’  in dermatology. Its effects have been known for several years, since improvement of  psoriasis started to be observed following exposure to sunlight. But exposure to sunlight is not safe, because of the large amount of non-therapeutic rays that cause skin cancer, and skin aging.

Then came the idea – why not develop phototherapy equipment that produces more therapeutic rays with minimal side-effects?
The first generation of phototherapy equipment was the ultra-violet cabin. At first there were UVA (Ultra Violet A) phototherapy cabins, which required the supporting use of photosensitizing medication. Next, there came the UVB-BB (Ultra Violet B – Wide Band) and UVB-NB (Ultra Violet B – Narrow Band) equipment.

The second generation of equipment was represented by the miniaturizing of the large phototherapy cabins, and the development of machines with small ultra violet lamps. The great advantage was that the treatment became localized, that is, only the affected areas were treated.

Unfortunately, both the first and second generation equipment produce short wave radiation, below 300 nm, known as the ‘dirty band’. These rays are not therapeutic, and it has been proven that they cause burns and skin cancer.

The third and last generation is the XTRAC Excimer laser. Why was the XTRAC Excimer laser developed?  Based on the classic work of Parrish & Jaenicke (researchers from the Department of Dermatology of the Harvard Medical School, USA), the conclusion was reached, that the 308 nm long wave radiation (as used by the XTRAC) was ideal for the treatment of psoriasis, obtaining the maximum therapeutic effects without side-effects (outside the ‘dirty band’). In practice, the results of this work were proven when the XTRAC was submitted to the therapeutic test. Ten years of clinical tests on psoriasis have proven that: “84% of the patients present 75% improvement in less than 10 treatments. 8 out of 10 patients were free of psoriasis for 2 years – Advantage – long periods of remission” (Kenemy Arch.derm:Vol. 137 No. 1, January 2001).

“Each session with XTRAC is equal to 3.6 sessions with UVB – NB; the cumulative energy needed to obtain the same clinical result is 6.47 times smaller when using XTRAC as compared to UVB-NB” Bonis B. et Kenemy: Lancet 1997;350:1522

For 10 years, the clinical results were significant, associated to security and effectiveness.  It has also been shown that by inducing a long period of remission (6 months to 2 years) this is one of the least costly treatments for psoriasis. Due to this unquestionable evidence, several health plans in the United States have opted, of their own accord, to pay for XTRAC treatment.

The safety of the XTRAC has been verified by Brazilian health authorities. This is possibly the sole phototherapy equipment approved by ANVISA (the Brazilian Food and Drug Administration) for the treatment of psoriasis.

Chose the best for yourself, chose XTRAC EXCIMER LASER, undoubtedly the best treatment for psoriasis.
