Vitiligo is a skin depigmentation
with no known cause. It is believed that this
disease results from a conjunction of various
elements such as endocrine, nervous, psychological
and immunological factors, acting on a person
with a predisposition to form spots. Vitiligo
can be associated with changes in other organs,
such as thyroid (hipo or hyperthyroidism), stomach
(gastritis), diabetes, anemia and alopecia areata.
In addition, small skin traumas, bruises and contusions
can also trigger the appearance of new white spots.
We observe the appearance or aggravation of
vitiligo with a certain frequency right after
high stress episodes, such as car accidents, urban
violence trauma or the death of a loved one, while
in children vitiligo is related to domestic conflicts.
In some cases, a hereditary factor is involved.
Unfortunately, much of the medical class is
not interested in vitiligo because the available
treatments offer very slow and frustrating. For
the patients, these results can be even more disturbing,
because they create demotivation which can lead
them into a vicious circle where with each new
spot there is an increase in the level of stress
and the consequent appearance of new spots. Also,
the attitude of some professionals who promise
a cure through miraculous, exotic formulas or
spiritual treatments is also to be condemned.
The main question in the life of any patient
who suffers from vitiligo is whether he can or
cannot be cured. Yes, vitiligo can be
cured and an early diagnosis
followed by an efficient treatment
minimizes the initial stress of the diagnosis,
making it possible for the patient to concentrate
his thoughts on the image of cure. At present,
XTRAC laser is the most recommended treatment,
because it can show results in just a few sessions
without causing any harm to health.
According to Drs. James Spencer and Suhail M.
Hadi, of the Department of Dermatology of Mount
Sinai Medical Center in New York, “the treatment
of vitiligo with XTRAC has shown excellent and
promising results. The therapeutic response to
the vitiligo treatment depends on many factors,
such as the patient’s skin color, the size
and period of evolution of the spot. Repigmentation
can begin in two weeks (after five sessions);
similar results can only be observed after months
or even years when UVA or UVB techniques are used.”
Let XTRAC take care of you.
